Silly Tyler. You didn't have breakfast today. You woke up inside a crate, remember?

Actually. You probably don't. You silly, silly man.

Watch Tyler "just wake up" and be good with magic.

I wonder
how anyone could hold a game of chess entirely in his brain. Once there is a disagreement over the positions, it’s basically over.

@Profpatsch: I was surprised by the existence of Verbal/Blindfold Chess when I started writing for Billy, too. However it is not only a real-life thing but talented players in the past two centuries have been keeping a world record going of how many games they can play simultaneously. The record is 32 games (19 wins, 4 losses and 9 stalemates).

Though there have been times where over 50 games were played at once but were not regarded record worthy at the time.

Writing for Billy Thatcher has taught me quite a lot about the world of chess and I have to say it is endlessly fascinating. Some of the most intriguing and complicated people who have ever lived were grandmasters.

And now I have to send AskBillyThatcher a question about his Blindfold Chess record.

No way.
This brat—uhm, grandmaster—has a tumblr?

What is this world coming to…

@Profpatsch: Dude, every character than has been fictionalized has a tumblr.

@Profpatsch: There are three "official" askblogs for Billy, Tyler, and Asia - maintained by Chelsea, Craig, and myself respectively. :) They're good places to get some extra character insight that may not show up for some time in the comic. Not spoilers, per se - but you certainly get to know the characters better.

Haha it's ironic because Fate and Time are perfect for cheating at Chess. Tyler's gonna beat the crap out of Billy once they learn their respective Arcana...

...but then again Prime can counterspell the bajesus out of those spells. This'll be interesting.

But your Billy fucking Thatcher! I thought you literally woke up one day and said, "I'm the pimp of Chess," or something like that.

Seriously though, I do agree with him despite his ego. Practice, people, and you shall receive the results you were looking for.

My friend Baylin taught me how to play chess... I lost spectacularly.

@ElyssaJM: Chess is fascinating and complex and difficult. It's good to try it out! I hope someday to learn enough complex strategy stuff, to even play with SOME confidence XD But I'll never be even close to Billy's ability.

I'm going to fire through our own shield.
CAN you actually take your own material? That would be useful.

ChibiSilverWings, August 4th, 2014, 2:36 pm     Reply

@Caswin: You can't take your own material, but it's VERY common in higher level chess to sacrifice pieces knowingly. Harry Potter's first movie actually showed a more accurate game than most things do. Sometimes it's a game of trying to trade material for a better position. Most of the time winning the game or losing the game doesn't come as this big shock to the person playing, they've seen it coming for about 6 moves at least.

High level players frequently play to a draw because they anticipate eachother well. Sometimes it comes down to minor human error, or whoever breaks focus first. Then also there's when players take a move that's less anticipated and are able to turn the game in their favor, but really it's a complex game that's usually portrayed wrong in media XD HOPEFULLY, I'll avoid any slip ups in writing about chess, because making it feel real is important to me.
