So, it looks like Malloy noticed what was going on with Asia, then?

@Arukoir: I hope he did. This whole thing with Hizrim gets more and more uncomfortable with every new update.

I keep thinking of Amical like one of the Gentry.
First Rule of the Gentry: Don't make deals unless required. They get the better bargains every time.
Second rule: Don't play games with the Gentry. Even if you win you lose.

We know Amical has at least fate and time. The Bullets stopping could have been time but could also have been Forces, though highly unlikely. Acanthus have forces as a restricted Arcana. My personal theory is that he's got at least one of every arcana except Death and maybe higher in most of them.

I began to consider the various possible ways a person with Fate 3 and Time 3 could beat a master at a game, even with no luck involved, and I can think of too many different options.

Malloy may not have figured out Hizrim, but he was in her head earlier. Doing magic is somewhat about believing you can do magic. She doubted too much for this sudden leap. None of the others even came close. I personally want to see her and Malloy talk and watch Hizrim dodge, but I do think the Hizrim is genuinely trying to help. He needs to go, but I doubt he'll disappear for long.

I am torn. I sorta want to see Amical beat Billy at his own game and make the chess grandmaster feel bad...but at the same time I'd love Amical to have to reduce his restrictions.

That said, like Mindsword mentioned, there is so much Amical could do to counter Billy's skill...this isn't going to go well.

[second posting, after a day]
In chess, one of the important factor to win a game is how far we can follow the 'line' and predict several moves in advances. Especially, that is how computer chess IA are implemented.

Amical power allow him do to that, replacing prediction with bactrack/fate. But he is limited.
Similarly, Billy is limited by his memory and skill (althought excellent) So this will look like a Kasparov vs Deeper blue match, but at lower level.

If amical is a relatif novice to chess,
I bet on billy, despite wanting amical to win, because computer are not really efficient : they need to analyse a lot (billion) of irrelevant position against a few well chosen for a player and their should be a limit to his power.

If amical is also a good player and willing to cheat, he will win. (there was a few competion allowing computer and moderate player with low machine well programmed won)

All in all, it can serve as an example of mundane vs magic match.

@W.: Chess computer programs are very interesting in terms of their role in the chess world. They've changed a lot of how people learn to play the game and improve, they can run such extensive analysis post-game. But I feel bad, for the chess players (like Kasparov) who end up having their skills belittled because they can be "beaten by a machine". I mean, just because a car can move faster than a runner doesn't make runners obsolete!

I think a fascinating thing about chess is how little luck is involved. In many games, there's at least some degree of luck, and in those games Amical would be best suited to win.

As you might imagine, you probably shouldn't play cards with Amical. Or really, any Acanthus XD

@ChibiSilverWings: Surprisingly, in the past some people used to use dice to determine moves in chaturanga (A precursor to chess)

@ChibiSilverWings [10 Nov 2014 03:28 am]:
And in fact saying computer beat human is a bit false :
The best computer can beat the best human, ... In a timed match and with a huge calculus capability.

A fair match would be a match between a computer and several player, with no time limit.
Beside, the famous "victory" was a 6.5 / 5.5 r├ęsult, partially due to the fact deeper blue didnt tire.

In fact, the best player is an amateur chessplayer with some computer skill and a computer. The human can direct the direction of the automatic search and the computer prevent mistakes and do most calculs.

It may be the case for amical, if he is a chess player and use magic to backtrack his moves. Either way this is also a psychological game on whether billy accept

He's a cheat
He's going to restart as many times as it takes. He's so smug. And Normally I hate smug characters. Why do I love Amical so much?

@Evil Eye: It's the face. You just can't say no to it for long.

...Mainly since there'll be bullets after your butt not long afterwards.

@Don Quixotes @Evil Eye: Amical is like Gaston. No one says no to Gaston.

@Evil Eye: i don't know if he'll want to waste his energy on resetting a chess game... btw, Mage-inspired teas!

@burningtyger: OOooh. Fun! We wanna do morphE character teas some time, but that'll wait til we can plan out some good blends. Of course Amical's will include cherry.

I went and reviewed Amical's casting. He does have Forces, quite odd. I am even more certain he's got a ton of arcana under his belt.
