Looking back at the other pictures, it looks like this is the board position:

In which case yes, Amical would be in trouble. His only option is to trade rooks, then he's way down and Billy can have an easy time promoting a pawn.
1. Rxc4 Rxc4
2. Rxb7 Rb4+
3. Rxb4 axb4
4. Kc2 c4

This is of course assuming it is Amical's turn. But if it's Billy's turn, it's check mate with Ra1

Of course it's a moot point after Billy fainting and all.

@Voidwolf: It is a little unclear whose turn it was when Billy's "nap" interrupted the game, but unless someone stopped the clock whoever's turn it was should be out of time by now. The game is most likely over.

@Lunaroki: I imagine what happened is Billy fainted then Amical made his move to let time run out on Billy. I once won a game in a tournament by moving really slowly and lulling my sleep-deprived opponent to sleep. Then I quietly made my move and sat there for the next 24 minutes as his time ran out. He woke up with two minutes left on his clock, leaving him to play a frantic blitz game whereas I had all the time I wanted to respond.

@Voidwolf: I demand a video of this.

@ChibiSilverWings: Sorry, no video exists. I will, however, always have the memory of the priceless look on my chess coach's face when he saw me sitting across from a sleeping opponent. My opponent's coach also saw it, but by tournament rules he couldn't interfere. I still suspect though that the loud noise in the lobby of the building that finally woke my opponent was not an accident.

@Voidwolf: Agreed. Proof or I'm calling bullshit. Chess stories are like fish stories. Everybody's got one and it's always exaggerated.

@Guest: Middle school chess tournament, it wasn't videotaped.

@Voidwolf: Heh my middle school concerts and things were all filmed by my camera happy mother so I had hope.

@ChibiSilverWings: Yes, but chess is much less a spectator activity.

@Voidwolf: I think most middle school concerts are about as interesting as most middle school chess games heh

@Guest: I totally agree that some stories are hard to believe, but someone falling asleep during a chess game is not exactly one of them. Now if I were to say that in seventh grade I played a Grand Master to a draw in a blitz game, that I wouldn't expect you to believe without evidence. (But for the record, I did.)

@Voidwolf: OK, so we didn't have time to finish cause we got interrupted by Mikhail Gorbachev. But I wasn't doing too badly when we called it.

@burningtyger: yes, good catch. Typing on mobile devices always has a bit of chance involved, swiping coming up with the wrong word and you not realizing it.

Looks like a close game
It's a shame Hizrim is going to interrupt it.

...Unless Billy passing out already did that.

burningtyger, February 24th, 2015, 11:44 pm     Reply

@The_Hyena_King: Amical's an S.O.B. But I seriously doubt he'd dare to keep playing during a medical emergency. After all, a man's word is his bond, and Arcadia punishes those who break their promises. I'm guessing Billy was out for a while and the two story lines are now back in sync; as such Hizrim should be arriving any moment now. (BTW Adrestia's already at 3 dots apparently- impressive.)

I'd love a bit of irising here at the start, to give us the sense of Billy's opening his eyes.
